Accra. January 5, 2022: With only four days left for the start of the tournament, Ghana Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac has put out his final 28-man squad for the upcoming TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations, it has been reported. Casualties from the provisional 30 are AS Roman’s young sensation Felix Afena-Gyan and the midfield prodigy for Clermont Foot Salis Abdul Samed. The final list:
Four times African champions, Ghana, were placed in Pot Two of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations draw held in Yaoundé in August 2021. The Black Stars were placed in a pot that had seven times champions Egypt, Ivory Coast- the last team to beat Ghana in a final, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Mali.
The grouping of teams into Pots is based on the official FIFA ranking, which Ghana currently sits on seventh position.
The Black Stars qualified for AFCON 2022 after finishing top of Group C of the Nations Cup qualifiers, winning four matches, drawing one and losing one. The last time it won the Nations Cup was in 1982, but it has come close three times since, in 1992, 2010 and 2015.
