May 19, 2022: Adabraka ACCRA. An educational program with the goal of getting pupils to focus more on practical instruction than on theoretical examinations was launched at the African University College of Communications Forecourt last Saturday May 14, 2022. Level 300 Strategic Communication students of the Kojo Yankah School of Communication at AUCC embarked on an outdoor Poster Presentation to explore their talents towards entrepreneurship.
The presentation included 25 groups of student who were charged to showcase their products on stands under canopies. Branded products and artifacts were displayed for hundreds of students and other stake holders to peruse.
“They all performed admirably”, Mr. Peter Wonders Kankam, Brand Management lecturer and organizer of the presentation event, said of the students. “The goal is to move them away from the theoretical in favor of practical instruction. This will help develop their talents towards self-employment,” added Kankam, also the Examinations Officer of the KYSC.
Eunice Afriyie, a participating strategic communication student, said her group focused on re-packaging roasted peanuts to make the product last longer and attract more customers.
“We did not want to take this for granted as a mere display: our goal was to bring it to market.”
She said feedback her group received is pushing team members to do further research.
“We do not take anything for granted: we are optimistic that our products will be available on the market in a short time.”
According to Anisha Benson, another participant, “the presentation was purposely for students of all streams to showcase their products and brands and to defend their project. Products displayed included packaged food, cosmetics, and beverages. Dignitaries were also invited to grade students and to critique the presentations.”
Aba Fayah, a Level 200 student who visited the event which went on from 9am to 3pm described it as “instructive, interesting, educational, and entertaining.” She urged lecturers and school administration to help make more of these programs available to students so that they will not only know books but also be able to apply what they have learned in the real world.
This poster presentation is in line with the “practicalizing” drive initiated by the institution’s new president Prof. Abeku Blankson. His direction is to move towards practical learning and entrepreneurship.
