H.E. ERNEST KPEBU’S WELCOME ADDRESS TO FRESH STUDENTS OF AFRICAN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATIONS
I want to stand on all existing protocols to say a very big welcome to you all.
Congratulations!
As SRC, our mandate is advocating for all students and also seeking the welfare of us all. We are the official mouthpiece of the student body.
What we are saying is, that you can’t be left out; you are needed to make the mandate of the SRC see light.
Whether you like it or not, you pay SRC dues and you are supposed to participate and make sure your money is used for the right thing.
The materialization of our wish is always seeing to an expectation – so I know each of us has an expectation we want to achieve at the end of the 4 years program.
Some of us will complete with 1st class, and others will graduate with a pass – but how you make yourself relevant on this campus is what makes your name and your presence to be felt.
Don’t just be passing through students – make sure wherever you are – every corner that you find yourself – you brighten that space. Let your presence be felt.
When we came to level 100, we had the opportunity to be course reps, and congress reps and fortunately for us we had the opportunity to lead the entire student body.
Most of you are leaders – I would encourage you to involve yourselves in student activities and student leadership.
Nelson Mandela once said, “it always seems impossible until it is done” – For that matter, with all perseverance, with all exuberance, anything that wouldn’t be inimical to you, just contribute, just represent yourselves and let your contribution towards the SRC be felt by all.
You are the ambassadors of the SRC; you are the ambassadors of the various halls and the great AUCC.
This year, AUUC’s flag must be hoisted high as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary.
Don’t go out and be polluted, the relevance of the SRC and the school as a whole starts from you.
Ending, I will say, most of you know the humble homes you are coming from – this is not the time to play. It won’t end you anywhere so be yourself.
If you know you are the investment of an entire generation in your family and would like to send some kind of acknowledgement to your family then check yourself and walk accordingly.
At odd times, the university is going to stretch you and sometimes it is not going to be rosy.
I am not assuring you that you are going to have an easy life within the four corners of the University but whenever it gets tough just say to yourself I will get there by focusing to attain my target.
In everything you face, in all circumstances – know that there is God!
When your quizzes don’t go right
When the exams do not go right
When your expectations are not met
Don’t give up, just get up and keep on moving towards your attainment and don’t forget that AUCC is the right place to Discover Yourself.
Long Live Ghana
Long Live AUCC
Long Live SRC
H.E ERNEST KPEBU
