Africa’s premier freestyle hip-life artist Yaa Pono says his contribution to music is in his interest in nurturing underground artists, acknowledging their skills, and supporting their craft. This, he explained, means always looking out for fresh talent, gauging dedication, and offering studio and performance opportunities to anybody who wants it bad enough.
Pono made these revelations in an interview on #Afronovaradio, Ghanas No. 1 online radio station, on the #TalkingDrum weekly program with host #BennyMore.
The two were discussing the role musicians can play to bolster the Ghana music industry.
One recent outstanding example of the Amen hitmaker’s goodwill is rapper Black Sheriff, the young one from Konongo who is charting with his Sermons.
“I will support any serious artist coming up; I love to help. My studio to there for that purpose…to tend a helping hand to the up-and-coming as a way of contributing to the industry”, he said.
Yaa Pono – real name Solomon Kojo Asare Boafo Nana Boasiako – believes that doing music means dedicating time to it and delivering what the audience wants.
“And so, a musician’s job is to thrill the audience with recordings and performances from myself and anyone I can help do that. Success means spreading success.”
